OR A TRUE RELATION OF STRANGE PROCEEDINGS IN A SOMERSETSHIRE LOFT AND THE FIELDS ABOUNDING

FIRST OF THE TROMPENBERGERS

Varnished this chap this morning with Klear floor polish from Lakeland. I  really enjoyed painting him in a toy soldier style and will definitely stick to this sort of finish. I want to try and get that even smoother glossier finish that traditional toy soldiers have, but that might mean using yacht varnish...will this yellow with age?

I was pleased how he came out, and will crack on with the rest of the regiment. A white undercoat made the colours quite bright too.

  1. And good he looks!

Don't know about the yacht varnish: in my time (the late "70!) I deliberately used 'light oak' wood varnish, to at once have an 'inking' effect (the 'dipping' method) and a lasting protection. Provided the excess accumulating on all lower extremities is removed (I shaked the varnished minis by batch) it 'shadowed' the hollows, outlined the limits between pieces of clothing and armor... But the aim was precisely to have a *less* toy soldier look (I got the idea from comparing the Starlux -not inked- and Elastolin -inked- toy soldiers)!

    Best wishes,
    Jean-Louis

PS: for sure you know of the 'Emperor vs Elector' collective blog, the dazibao where 18th C. Imagi-Nation rulers can post 'flashnews' linked to their own blog and ask for advice, counsels... ?
